Do you have a priority when it comes to securing your home? I mean what is your line of thought about your home. Do you think I have no valuables? Nothing is worth stealing? Then what about the security of your loved ones? Are you doing anything to enhance your home and loved one’s security. You see burglars are not always motivated by the same things you are.
If you are fed up with life and are in a rut perhaps, it’s hard to think you have nothing of value. What is of little value to you can be worth a lot to a desperate crystal meth addict who wants to get his hands on anything to feed a destructive habit. People on this type of drug have an increased boldness and they can often be quite immune to fear and pain when they are actively consuming this substance.
Who’s In The House
That doesn’t mean to say this is the only type of person who can potentially be an intruder in your home. It’s just an analogy to make you aware of the importance of your home and your family. Not all security threats come from people from the outside. Some are inherent inside our homes. Faulty smoke detectors, unserviced, damaged or even worse inactive fire alarms can make your home a sleeping disaster. Smoke alarms need to be changed every 10 years as they acquire dirt and atmospheric pollutants which can clog up their detection elements.
A smoke alarm is also only about $20 so you are talking about less than the price of a coffee per day, pitifully low. You also need to be aware that there is a new type of smoke alarm that you should look into. This is a dual protection system, which basically protects you from silent odorless fires that build up slowly, and also highly combustible flame fires – see here. Both are lethal.
Keep An Eye On Things
You can also keep an eye on threats around your home, and also help convict criminals if you have a good alarm and CCTV system installed. CCTV systems can be a basic as having an IP cam (one that downloads footage to the internet) connected inside and outside your home. These cameras can also be disguised as clocks and ornaments or rest discreetly in your eaves or ceilings.
Now they aren’t as expensive as they used to be. You can even get 4 camera CCTV night vision kits for $150 and single IP Camera for less than $70. Plus you can get them wi-fi enabled without any leads running from them, which is right up my street. Good wireless security alarms can also be purchased from PiSector for about $190. How cheap is that? Plus you can hook your alarm and CCTV system together.
Then there’s the real bonus of all this. The system will self monitor itself. So if it detects any motion it will send you a warning alert message by text and email. You control it all with a smart phone app. As soon as you get a warning message you can login to your alarm and see what was triggered and log into your CCTV footage via your app and check on things.
Modern Device Control
Many modern alarms come with intercom functions so you can talk to potential intruders to warn them off or play a pre-recorded message. Now that is cheap and effective home security. All for under $350 and that includes top of the range smoke detectors. That should last you for 10 years.
And with the connectivity of modern devices your fire alarm, gas alarm, or water alarm can also link up to your alarm system. They can effectively trigger your alarm. Once this happens you check in with the main control unit on the alarm, or check in with your app and see what triggered it. Then you can also check out your CCTV footage to clarify anything if you are out of the house. Plus you can go back in time and look at your footage to check if anyone set off your alarm. How cool is that? With today’s modern technology and Z-Wave powered devices you have the world at your fingertips from any location in the world.
